The Hunt family fortune was made from American Oil. In fact their ancestor H.L. Hunt had such a bombastic personality for an oil baron that the beloved character from the classic 80s soap Dallas, J.R. Ewing was based on him. Hunt’s son Lamar is just as impressive by becoming one of the founders of the American Football League and founder and long time owner of the Kansas City Chiefs. The Hunts still own the Chiefs along with the oil fields and have over $16.6 billion.
