The Rockefeller Family
When you think billionaire families, the Rockefellers always come up. John D. Rockefeller was the first billionaire in America thanks to his company Standard Oil which he started in 1870. The company would eventually monopolize the country’s oil refining industry before the US Supreme Court decided that this was an illegal practice in 1911. The company was forced to split up into smaller 34 companies. However, this only made the Rockefellers richer as the individual companies ended up with more profitable. Currently valued at $11 billion, the fortune is split between 174 family members, each getting something north of $63 million.
