We truly wish Val Kilmer just had better luck in his later years. Kilmer was missing from films for a long time, gaining weight and enduring personal and public appearances due to a two-year fight with throat cancer. In 2015, he had a tracheotomy, which reduced his voice to a quiet rasp and caused him to have constant shortness of breath. Despite these challenges, we’re excited to hear he’ll be returning for the Top Gun sequel, which is set to release in 2021.
