Jorge “El Gigante” Gonzalez participated in several sports including basketball and pro wrestling. He towered over his opponents at a staggering 8 feet tall. Giant Gonzalez, as he was known in the later part of his wrestling career, suffered from the rare disease gigantism. It makes anyone who has it grow rapidly and larger than normally possible. Gonzalez was already 6 feet 4 inches by the time he turned 14. This gave him a big advantage in basketball, but also made it easy for him to make it as a pro wrestler. Despite is 8-foot height and 460-pound weight, his wrestling career only lasted five years. Gigantism often leads to other diseases, and Gonzalez died of heart and diabetes complications at age 44.
