Dumitru Stefanescu, better known as Gogea Mitu, was a Romanian boxer. Mitu holds several records including being the tallest Romanian in history and the tallest professional boxer. Mitu had a short career in the ring, with only three fights. He won all three fights by knockout. Despite this, he was known around the world for his height and presence. Although Mitu had the demeanor of a child outside the ring, he was far more intelligent than most gave him credit for. He learned to read on his own without going to school and he routinely saw through people’s attempts to try to profit off of him. Many scientists also wanted to study his condition since few people with gigantism were known at the time.
