During the free love and counterculture movements of the 1970s, perhaps no duo better represented what that meant than Richard “Cheech” Marin and Tommy Chong. The comedy duo became synonymous with the hippie persona, espousing their love of marijuana and sexuality before the conservatism of the 1980s took back over. Throughout the 70s and 80s, Cheech & Chong had wildly successful stand-up shows, movies, and comedic studio recordings. They were nominated for six Grammy Awards, and won for Best Comedy Recording in 1973.
